Collaboration is central to our work. We partner with governments, change makers, and leading researchers to move policy and people toward sustainable progress in global health.

Vital Strategies collaborates with foundations, non-governmental organizations, and governments to design and implement sustainable, science-based solutions to critical public health problems including the world’s biggest drivers of death, disease and disability, including tobacco use, poor nutrition, air pollution, overdose, and now COVID-19.

Partnering with Bloomberg Philanthropies to Advance Urban Health

In December 2016, Bloomberg Philanthropies, a longstanding funder of Vital Strategies, came to Vital Strategies with an audacious idea: How could we spark a movement of urban health leaders to save lives from noncommunicable disease? Vital Strategies, working with World Health Organization, sprung into action to develop a clear strategy to engage and support dozens of global cities in implementing evidence-based measures to reduce death and disease from NCDs. In just six months the project moved from ideation to execution, and Partnership for Healthy Cities was launched with 50 participating global cities. Now in its second stage, the Partnership is expanding to 70 cities, a vibrant network that is also supporting cities on the front lines of the COVID pandemic. Learn more.

Putting World Class Data and Epidemiology at the Fingertips of USAID

Improving public health requires diverse set of expertise and capacities; working in diverse consortia that include community engagement, national leadership, and coordination with other global technical experts and groups and funders is key to driving long-lasting, sustainable improvements in systems that drive health. Vital Strategies is proud to be the main implementing partner of numerous ambitious global initiatives, and to play important technical role in other initiatives. Vital Strategies serves as a technical partner in the consortium selected to implement USAID’s new flagship Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) Program. CHISU will support governments in strengthening their ability to make data the foundation of decision-making, a strategy that will ultimately mean more efficient and effective health programs that save more lives. Partnering with the Government of Peru to Combat Childhood Lead Poisoning

Vital Strategies sees partnering with and supporting progress by national governments as central to the sustainability of our mission to ensure every person is protected by a strong public health system. In Peru, childhood lead poisoning has been declared a “health state of emergency” in districts where lead in the environment is driving chronic disease and disability among children and adults. In response, in an effort funded by Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Vital Strategies launched an initiative in 2018 to provide technical assistance and financial resources to the Peruvian Ministry of Health to go beyond crisis response and to support ongoing lead poisoning surveillance, raise public awareness and improve regulation of lead in consumer products.
